Account Deletion

How to request deletion of your Cornerstone Education account, and — just as importantly — what deleting an account does not remove.

Read this first

Deleting your Cornerstone Education account removes your ability to sign in. It does not delete your student's school records.

Grades, attendance, transcripts, health records, discipline records and enrolment information belong to your school or district, not to Cornerstone and not to your login. Schools are legally required to keep them, for years in most cases, and the school is their custodian.

We cannot delete them on your request, and we would not be permitted to. If a button in an app could erase a child's attendance history, that would be a serious fault in the system, not a feature.

What is and is not removed

Deleting your account removes Deleting your account does NOT remove
Your ability to sign in to the Cornerstone Education app and the web portals Grades, report cards and transcripts
Your password and your active sessions Attendance records
The record that routes your email address to your school for sign-in Health office and immunisation records
Your saved preference for which experience the app opens Discipline records
Enrolment and demographic information
Special education, intervention and counseling records
Anything else in your student's education record

If a guardian's login is deleted and the same person later re-enrols a student at the district, the school issues a new login onto the same, intact student record.

For staff, the same applies to work you recorded. Attendance registers you took and grades you entered are the school's records and stay with the school after your account is removed.

If you have two accounts

Some people — most often a teacher who is also a parent at the same school — have two accounts under one email address: one staff account and one family account.

They are deleted separately. Requesting deletion of your staff account does not remove your family access to your own child's information, and vice versa. If you want both removed, say so in your request, and name both.

How to request deletion

From the app

  1. Open Cornerstone Education and sign in.
  2. Tap the round button in the top right corner to open the Account sheet.
  3. Under Account, tap Request Account Deletion.
  4. Read the confirmation screen. It names which account is being requested, and which experience it belongs to.
  5. Confirm. The request goes to your school's administrators and to Cornerstone support, and you are signed out.

By email

You do not need the app, and you do not need to be able to sign in. If you have lost access to your account, use this route.

Email a deletion request

Or write to support@cornerstonetech.online and include:

Do not include your password. We never need it.

Through your school

Your school office and district administrators can remove your account directly. If you are already in contact with them — because a student is transferring, or a staff member is leaving — asking them is usually the quickest route.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge your request to the email address you wrote from.
  2. We pass it to your school or district, because they own the account and the decision.
  3. Your school verifies who you are. We are not able to verify on their behalf — a school knows its own families and staff, and we do not.
  4. The account is deactivated and your sign-in access ends.
  5. We confirm when it is done.

Expect this to take several school days. It depends on your school office, and school offices are closed in the evenings, at weekends and during school holidays. If you have not heard anything after ten school days, write to us again and we will chase it.

If a student is still enrolled, your school may need to keep a guardian contact on file as a matter of policy or law — emergency contact, legal notice, truancy obligations. In that case the school will say so and explain what it can and cannot remove. That is the school's decision, under the rules that apply to it, and not something Cornerstone can override.

About your student's records — what they contain, correcting them, or how long the school keeps them: contact your school. They are the custodian and those rights run against them.
